Visit Gulfstream Park During a Stakes Race

If your holiday travels take you near Hallandale, Florida, I would highly recommend including a visit to Gulfstream Park.  In case you are lucky enough to live near Hallandale, Florida but haven’t made it a point to go to Gulfstream Park, don’t wait any longer.  From December 21st through January 1st, there are some horses racing events known as stakes races that you could attend.

On December 21st, the Dania Beach Stakes will be held here.  It is a Grade 3 race run over 1 mile and open to 2-year-old horses battling for their share of a USD 100,000 purse.

This is followed on December 22nd by the Harlan’s Holiday Stakes.  It is open to 3-year-old horses or older who race the 1 1/16th miles all for a part of the USD 100,000 purse.

In case these dates are a bit too early for you, December 28th is the date for both the Mr. Prospector Stakes and the El Prado Stakes will take place at Gulfstream Park.  The Mr. Prospector Stakes was inaugurated back in 1946.  Today, it is run by 3-year-old horses or older over 6 furlongs on the dirt.  They try their best all for a share of the USD 100,000 purse.  The El Prado Stakes, on the other hand, is run by 3-year-old horses or older for 1 mile on the turf.  In the end, the goal is to grab a share of the USD 100,000 purse.

If Sunday works better into your plans, the Ocala Stakes will happen here on December 29th.  This is another race that is open to 3-year-old horses or older.  The race is contended for 1 mile on the dirt, and all for a slice of the pie so to speak.  The USD 100,000 pie or purse rather.  The 2012 Ocala Stakes ended with a dead heat finish between Delightful Mary and Holiday Mood on January 8th, 2012.  Let’s hope the 2013 Ocala Stakes has a clear cut winner.

New Year’s Day horse racing may be just what you are looking for, and if so, the Gulfstream Park Derby is a horse racing event at Gulfstream Park on January 1st.  3-year-old horses are eligible for this 1 mile race on the dirt.  The USD 100,000 purse will be distributed among the top finishers.

My intention is that this snapshot of the upcoming stakes races at Gulfstream Park will have you planning a visit there soon!  The horse racing events are not limited to stakes races so be sure to find out what races fit into your schedule.

Of course, if you cannot visit Gulfstream Park, do not worry.  It is just one of the numerous race tracks across the United States and throughout the world that are available to you on Horse Racing Fantasy developed by Horse Racing Simulation LLC.

Wagering on Horse Races

In the evolution of a horse racing fan, it can be natural to bet on horse racing events.  If you are new to betting, there are some terms that may be of help to you.
•    Win – You bet on the first horse to cross the finish line.
•    Place – You bet on the horse that will cross the finish line in 2nd place.
•    Show – You bet on the horse that will be 3rd to cross the finish line.
•    In The Money – This means that a horse finished in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place.
•    Across  The Board – This bet is placed on a horse to win (1st, 2nd or 3rd), place (2nd or 3rd) or show (3rd).  In the event the horse wins, you can collect three ways; whereas, if the horse finishes in 2nd place, you can collect in two manners.  Similarly, if the horse finishes 3rd, you can collect in one fashion.

It is highly possible that the thrill associated with betting will lead you to enhance your betting skills and try some more “exotic” bets like:

•    Exacta – This bet is also known as Perfecta, and it is where you bet on the first two horses in a specific order that will finish a horse racing event
•    Trifecta – This bet is also known as a Triple, and as the names suggest, it is a bet where you choose the first three horses to cross the finish line in their precise order.
•    Superfecta – In this bet, you select the first four finishing horses in their exact order.
•    Pick Six (or more) – You bet on the winning (1st place) horses in all the races that are covered.
•    Boxed Bet – This type of wager involves all combinations of a multiple horse bet like an exacta or trifecta.

Now that you know some of the terms common in the world of horse racing wagering, there are a few general horse racing terms that relate to betting as well.  They are:

•    Photo Finish – This happens when the horses cross the finish line extremely close together making it almost impossible to determine the places of the finishers without the use the a finish-line camera.
•    Dead Heat – In the event that a finish-line camera cannot determine the winner of the race, a tie may be declared of two or more horses.

With photo finishes and the possibility of a dead heat, the anticipation from betting is there in every horse race.   If you are not a horse racing fan yet, attend a race or attend a race in the virtual world to start your passion.  It might not be long until you join the betting world too.  To attend a horse racing event in the virtual world and even to hone in on your betting, you can use Horse Racing Fantasy developed by Horse Racing Simulation LLC at www.horseracegame.com.
