Alysheba Stakes: The Race Named After a Talented Racehorse

The Alysheba Stakes is a thoroughbred horse race that is run every year at the Churchill Downs racetrack in Louisville, Kentucky. While it’s not yet quite as popular as other famous horse races, it is the latest addition to the Derby Week.

The Alysheba Stakes became part of Derby Week’s schedule in 2004. It’s being run at the moment on the day before the Kentucky Derby and is the preliminary horse racing event to the Kentucky Oaks, one of the United States' major stakes races.

This horse racing event was the first event to become part of the Derby Week since 1997. It was named after Alysheba, who won the Kentucky Derby in 1987 and was inducted into the United States’ Racing Hall of Fame.

The Story of Alysheba
Alysheba was a highly talented thoroughbred race horse who won many famous horse races, including two major stakes races in 1987, which nearly brought him the Triple Crown.

Sired by Alydar with his dam being Bel Sheba, Alysheba was bred by Preston Madden. With Jack Van Berg as his trainer, Alysheba had a slow season as a two-year-old, winning a single maiden race. He placed third in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, and sadly lost the Hollywood Futurity.

He performed poorly as a three-year-old during his preparatory races for the Kentucky Derby. However, it was found that he was suffering from an entrapped epiglottis.  He underwent surgery, which was successful, after which he ran in the Derby, despite his single victory.

Despite his surgery and almost getting knocked down with his jockey Chris McCarron by Bet Twice, he still won the Kentucky Derby. He then won the Preakness Stakes and tried to win the Belmont Stakes, which would have made him the 12th winner of the United States Triple Crown. Unfortunately, Alysheba had to race without taking his medication Lasix, which was forbidden in New York at the time. He lost to Bet Twice by 14 lengths, finishing in fourth place.

Big Money
When he turned four, Alysheba won six major stakes races. Among his other spectacular achievements was becoming the first horse to run 10 furlongs in less than 2 minutes in a single calendar year. Alysheba finished his horse racing career with earnings of $6,679,242, which was a record for the time.

Hard to Win
The Alysheba Stakes might not yet be one of the most famous horse races, but it is still a popular thoroughbred horse race that has seen quite a few top horses. Interestingly enough, no trainer has won this horse racing event more than once.

One of Many Races on Derby Day

Held annually at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, the American Turf Stakes is an American flat Thoroughbred horse race for three-year-olds. Upgraded to a Grade II in 2010, the famous horse race is run over a distance of 8.5 furlongs on turf in early May, immediately preceding the famous Grade I Kentucky Oakshorse race.

Inaugurated in 1992, the thoroughbred horse race has been run on a left handed, grass track, with the champion leaving home with a purse of $200,000. The most recent champion was Noble Tune, with Javier Castellano as jockey, and trainer Chad C. Brown. Favored Noble Tune, saving all the ground for Castellano, fired through an opening along the hedge to register an easy victory in the American Turf Stakes May 3, 2013 at Churchill Downs, leaving with an amazing victory and $234,200.

Churchill Downs, located in south Louisville, Kentucky, United States, is a thoroughbred racetrack most famous for hosting the Kentucky Derby annually. It officially opened in 1875, and held the first Kentucky Derby and the first Kentucky Oaks in the same year. Churchill Downs has also hosted the renowned Breeders' Cup on eight occasions, most recently in 2011. Churchill Downs Incorporated owns and operates the racetrack with a capacity of a whopping $120,000!

The current holder for the time record in this thoroughbred horse race is Doubles Partner in 2010, with a time of 1:41.05, racing with jockey Garrett Gomez and trainer Todd A. Pletcher. Settling in on the rail mid-pack early, Doubles Partner rated off the runaway lead of Lost Aptitude and Strike the Tiger. Doubles Partner began making up ground around the turn under Garrett Gomez, switching outside of Strike the Tiger at the quarter pole before making a powerful run for the wire and finishing 1 3/4 length in front!

“I had a perfect trip, I really did," Gomez said. "I was able to follow two horses that were following the leaders. I just followed behind them for the first three-eighths of a mile. I got to the second turn and I was actually going to move out around them.

The date for the next American Turf Stakes is set on Derby Day, May 3, 2014 and we expect to see great performances brought by all the three year old thoroughbreds!

The New Pimlico Distaff – AllaireduPont Distaff Stakes

Run annually at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland, the AllaireduPont Distaff is an American Thoroughbred horse race. Being a Grade II event run in mid May, it is open to fillies, young female horses less than four years old, and mares age three and older. It is contested on dirt at a distance of 8.5 furlongs, which is 1 and 1/16 miles long.

Formerly known as the "Pimlico Breeders' Cup Distaff Handicap" and "Pimlico Distaff", the major stakes thoroughbred horse race was renamed the "AllaireduPont Breeders' Cup Distaff Stakes" in 2006. This was in honor of the late Maryland horsewoman, AllaireduPont. Allaire du Pont (May 4, 1913 - January 6, 2006) was an American sportswoman and a member of the prominent French-American Du Pont family of chemical manufacturers who is most remembered as the owner of the thoroughbred horse racing Hall of Fame champion, Kelso.

Some records for this race include the speed record for the 8.5 furlong track, which is set at 1:42 by Buy the Barrell with jockey Gabriel Saez and trainer J. Larry Jones (2008). Currently, the most wins by a jockey is at three by Jerry Bailey (1997, 1998, 2003) and the most wins by a trainer is at three by C. R. McGaughey III (1993, 1997, and 2001).

The famous thoroughbred horse race was first awarded graded status in 1994 and then the race was upgraded from a Grade III to a Grade II event in 2007.The race was put on hiatus in 2010 due to a shortage of purse money, but returned in 2011 with its $150,000 purse as every year. The most recent champion of the AllaireduPont Distaff Stakes is Summer Applause, a 5 year old Mare, with John Velazquez as jockey and Chad Brown as its trainer.“She ran great. … To really pull away like that and to run such a strong race against some nice fillies, giving weight, I’m really proud of her. We didn’t know what the pace was going to be, so I left it up to Johnny,” said Brown after the exciting race.

He is one of the 2 current holders of the most wins in the Aegon Turf Sprint Stakes, alongside Jerry Bailey. Also, Leparoux became the 2nd jockey in history to win 3 breeders’ cup races in a single year.Chad C. Brown, who got into horses at an early age at an upstate New York track, earned his largest win with thoroughbred race horse Maram at theBreeders' Cup, with a purse of over $1,000,000. The AckAck Handicap: The Story of a Race Named After a Famous Racehorse

The AckAck Handicap that is most well-known today is the one run at Churchill Downs. However, there was another AckAck Handicap—named for the same horse—that was run at Hollywood Park from 2001 to 2009. However, seeing as the Hollywood Park Racetrack has closed down and that it had been five years since the AckAck Handicap had been contested there, it’s likely that the Churchill Downs race will remain the one and only thoroughbred horse race with this title.

A Look at the AckAck Handicap at Churchill Downs

The AckAck Handicap is run every year in the first week of November. Held at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, this is a Grade III thoroughbred horse race that is run over 8 furlongs, which is the equivalent of one mile, on dirt. Any horse that is three years old or more can participate, regardless of whether it's a colt, stallion, filly, or mare.

In terms of famous horse races, the AckAck Handicap probably has a way to go until it reaches the famed status of other major stakes races. This is because this horse racing event is still relatively young, at least when compared to other famous horse races.

First held in 1991, the AckAck Handicap has been run over three different distances since then. Thus, in 1991, when it was founded, it was run over 8 furlongs. The race was contested at the same distance until 1994 and between 2006 and 2009 as well as in 2012. In 1994, the distance was changed to 7.5 furlongs, which lasted until 2005. In 2010 and 2011 the race was run over 8.5 furlongs.

A Quick Look at the Racehorse This Horse Racing Event Was Named After

AckAck was a thoroughbred racehorse that was inducted into the American Thoroughbred Hall of Fame. He was relatively successful in his racing career between the ages of two and four, when he won a few major stakes races, like the Withers Stakes and the Arlington Classic in 1969.

However, it was in 1971, when he turned five, that he became one of the most powerful horses of that year. He won seven major stakes races, one after the other, which were run on both grass and dirt. His performance won him the award of United States Horse of the Year. In 1999, AckAck was chosen by The Blood Horse, Inc. to be one of the top 100 racehorses of the 20th century.

The AckAck Handicap: A Few Facts

The AckAck Handicap is contested for a $200,000 purse, making it quite a valuable horse racing event. Surprisingly, no horse has managed to achieve victory more than once in this horse racing event. However, Calvin Borel—a jockey—managed to win this race four times on different mounts, which the highest number of wins for a jockey so far.

Learn More About the Schuylerville Stakes

The Schuylerville Stakes is a Grade III horse racing event held on the Saratoga Race Course every year in Saratoga Springs, New York. Though not necessarily one of the major stakes races in the U.S., it is nevertheless a popular thoroughbred horse race. It used to be classed as a Grade II stakes race but was downgraded in 2006. Let’s look at what graded stakes races are to get a better understanding of the popularity of the Schuylerville Stakes.

What is a Graded Stakes Race?

A graded stakes race refers to any thoroughbred horse race in North America that gets its name for the entry fee the owners of the horses need to pay. The money the owners pay to enter their horses in the race, along with an extra sum put into the pot by racetrack, is then used to pay out the prizes for the racers that come in first, second, and third. Sometimes, horses that finish fourth also get a portion of the prize money.

There are different grade levels with Grade I stakes being considered major stakes races due to the larger prizes and the more powerful competing horses. The most famous horse races are generally Grade I stakes horse racing events.

A thoroughbred horse race is awarded its grade by the American Graded Stakes Committee. This committee uses a wide range of criteria to determine the grade of a horse racing event, including a minimum purse requirement, the longevity of the race, government drug testing, and more.

Note that if a race isn’t held for one year, it can still keep its grade. However, any race that is dormant for longer will have to be re-graded.

A Little More about the Schuylerville Stakes

The Schuylerville Stakes gets its name from a town close to where the event is held each year, known as Schuylerville, of course. The tradition is for the Schuylerville Stakes to open the Saratoga meet every year, though it wasn't always so. From 1943 to 1945 the race was held at the Belmont Park and in 1952 the Jamaica Racetrack—which has since closed—played host to this horse racing event.

It is run on a dirt track, over a distance of six furlongs. The purse up for grabs is currently $150,000. While it may not necessarily be one of the most famous horse races, the Schuylerville Stakes is still a graded stakes race and the purse is relatively attractive, especially since it gives horses a chance to compete that could never stand a chance in major stakes races.

Horse Racing Down Under

Over time, the sport of horse racing has evolved in Australia; however, historically, this was started in the initial years of settlement. Today, it has developed into one of the top three prominent Thoroughbred racing nations throughout the globe.

In history, Australia has given the world some memorable horses. These horses are in various different arenas including Thoroughbred horse racing and harness racing.

Phar Lap is the most well-known and beloved Thoroughbred race horse that has graced the world. He was an active race horse from 1928 until 1932. Although he succumbed to an early and untimely death, he had found his way into the hearts of many people in Australia and throughout the world. Based on his racing career, he was inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame and the New Zealand Racing Hall of Fame as well as holding the #22 spot of the Top 100 U.S. Racehorses of the 20th Century by Blood-Horse magazine. The story of Phar Lap was told in the 1983 film titled Phar Lap: Heart of a Nation.

Although Makybe Diva was foaled in Great Britain, she was trained as a Thoroughbred race horse in Australia. Her claim to fame was her three consecutive wins of the famous Melbourne Cup in 2003, 2004 and 2005. Also in 2005, Makybe Diva came out the winner of the W.S. Cox Plate. In Australian horse racing history, she was the highest stakes-earner with a winning amount in excess of AUD 14 million when she retired on November 1st, 2005.

Australia has been the home to some impressive harness racing horses as well. Cane Smoke had a noteworthy racing career with 120 wins of which 34 came from only one season. Cardigan Bay spent a considerable portion of his racing career, during the 1960s, in the United States where he became the first Standardbred horse to win a USD 1 million price. During the 1970s, Paleface Adios became a well-known name in many homes throughout Australia and particularly in Melbourne. He competed from the time he was 2-years-old until his retirement at the age of 11. In the recent past, Blacks A Fake won 4 Inter Dominion Championships in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2010. This set him ahead of others as this is a prestigious harness race in Australia, and he became the only horse to achieve this amazing accomplishment.

If this brief look at the history of horse racing in Australia has raised further your passion, the virtual world brings it all to you especially through horse racing games. While we may not all get the opportunity to attend a horse race in-person, we get experience the thrilling action with online horse racing games.

What Might 2014 Hold for the Kentucky Derby?

The anticipation is growing almost daily for the 2014 Kentucky Derby. In fact, the number of results from an internet for “Countdown to Kentucky Derby 2014” shows just how things are heating up. This horse race is scheduled to take place on May 3rd, 2014 at Churchill Downs.

Let’s take a small detour and learn a little bit about the horse race track. Churchill Downs opened its doors to the public at its inauguration all the way back in 1875. Both the Kentucky Derby and the Kentucky Oaks were held during the first year itself. Most recently in 2011, it was the site of eight Breeders Cup World Championships. Perhaps, the most visible sight associated with Churchill Downs is the twin spires atop the grandstand. However, it has gained even more recognition including the 2009 ranking of #5 by the Horseplayers Association of North America when it introduced a rating system for 65 Thoroughbred Racetracks in North America. Among several horse races here, some of the most significant and well-recognized in the horse racing community are the Clark Handicap, the Kentucky Derby, the Kentucky Oaks, the Stephen Foster Handicap and the Woodford Reserve Turf Classic.

Let’s get back to talking about the Kentucky Derby. It is the first leg in the U.S. Triple Crown. The second leg is the Preakness Stakes and the third (and final leg) is the Belmont Stakes. Currently, the Kentucky Derby attracts three-year-old horses battling it out over a distance of 1 1/4th miles for a share in the USD 2,000,000 purse. The Kentucky Derby has three well-known nicknames. "The Most Exciting Two Minutes In Sports" or "The Fastest Two Minutes in Sports" are the nicknames given to the race considering it takes about that long from start to finish even if there is a lot of fervor leading up to the actual race. "The Run for the Roses" is the nickname for the race because a blanket of roses is draped over the winner.

Considering this race dates all the way back to 1875 with no years when it was not held, there are some records worth mentioning. Secretariat set the record time for winning the race of 1:59.4 back in 1973. This record is still held today, and the winners of this horse race in recent years have finished over 2:00.0. Both Whirlaway, in 1941, and Assault, in 1946, won the Kentucky Derby by eight lengths, and they share the record. Another two-way tie is five wins by a jockey. Eddie Arcarco was aboard the winning horses in 1938, 1941, 1945, 1948 and 1952; whereas, Bill Hartack jockeyed the winning horses in 1957, 1960, 1962, 1964 and 1969.

It is fairly early to make any predictions for the 2014 Kentucky Derby because the field isn’t even set. However, there are some horses to watch in 2014 as they might go on to win this horse race too. They include Shared Belief, Honor Code, Tapiture, Alberts Hope, Cairo Prince, Strong Mandate, Stash The Cat, Smart Cover and No Nay Never. Who is your favorite to win the 2014 Kentucky Derby?

California racetracks

The popularity of horse racing game and horse racetracks all over the world have interesting recount to associate with. What has been common worldwide is that this sport of the rich and affluent spread to other classes of the society and took the form of a major public entertainment business. However in California, the sport of horse racing game started as a social entertainment, a means where people could meet and bet on racing horses for entertainment also.

The coming up of a Constitutional Amendment banned alcohol and betting on race horse at the horse racing game which moved the sport to the neighboring state of Mexico which later came back to the United States as a means to fight the crisis led by the Great Depression. Horse race games and betting at the games were thought of as a way to promote agriculture at the county fairs. It was thought if betting was allowed and promoted at the county fairs it would bring in more people and help the economy.

In 1933, California State passed a proposition that provided for the “encouragement and breeding of horses”. This led to racetracks coming up in the State, the first major one being Santa Anita other than the privately operated racetracks. There are about 20 horse racetracks in the State of which some of the major ones are Del Mar, Hollywood Park, Golden Gate Fields, Santa Anita and few more.

Some of these horse racetracks like the Santa Anita Park, Del Mar host major Grade 1 races in American racing. Some of these races are important in the American horse racing calendar and are looked forward by many race enthusiast. The Santa Anita Derby, Santa Anita Handicap, Pacific Classic Stakes, Del Mar Oaks, San Francisco Mile Stakes, Golden Gate Derby are some of the notable races that are hosted in the State. There are other Group 2 and Handicap races also that are happen as part of the racing season.

All the variety of races that the horse racetracks in California have to offer can be enjoyed at the horse race game at http://www.horseracegame.com. This horse race game simulation is a complete gaming experience that gives the player to choose from a large number of races and racetracks around the world.

How horse racing evolved from antiquity to modern day racing

Though there is no recorded history of beginning of horse racing, evidences show it has been in existence since pre-historic times. Early man used horses as a mode for search of food or to fulfill other necessities but as evolution happened need and usage changed. As humans started agriculture, horses started to be used in agriculture and later for transportation.

There is evidence of horses and horse racing being in existence in the ancient Greek and Roman civilizations. It started in the form of chariot racing when it was racing between states or within states to display reign, power. As this form of racing to show off supremacy rose, people started going to the races for cheering their riders which took the shape of public entertainment.

Then as people traveled for wars, work etc. the sport spread having its presence in all major civilizations of the world. Britain known as the first places of origin of the sport has recorded history as early as the 17th century. The sovereign rulers of the 16th, 17th century bred horses to show off wealth, affluence and built dedicated areas for horse breeding and horse racing. Horse racing became a rage because of its royal connection; Arab stallions were imported to breed with home bred mares to create the forefathers of Thoroughbred racing of today.

The best horses were bred for offspring and sent to different parts of the world for sport and other needs. In many parts of the world in the late seventeenth century it became an organized sport having regulatory agency to make laws and control the sport. The betting in the sport also became more organized, a place where people could meet and socialize added to the popularity of the sport. The modern day races have reached a totally different level which involves large field of runners, complex monitoring equipment and huge public entertainment business involving large sums of money.

How nice it would be if there was a chance to race the three founding fathers of the turf namely; Godolphin Arabian, Byerley Turk and Darley Turk or any of their offspring that were champions at the race. The free racing games at www.horseracegame.com gives the chance to race the champions of the past and the present. The virtual horse race has the features to choose race horses, field of our choice. Extra, Extra – Read All About the Preakness Stakes

Throughout the world, one of the most popular horse races is the Preakness Stakes.  This horse racing event is held annually at the illustrious horse race track, Pimlico Race Course.  Pimlico, as it is commonly referred as, is a fixture in the Baltimore, Maryland landscape.

The Preakness Stakes is the 2nd leg of the highly coveted Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing, commonly known as the Triple Crown, held after the Kentucky Derby and before the Belmont Stakes.  In horse racing in the United States, the Preakness Stakes is considered in the category of Grade 1, the top stakes races.  This race is run on a dirt track over 1 3/16th miles (9.5 furlongs) with a field of 3-year-old contenders.

The weight carried by a race horse differs based on the gender of the horse racing.  Colts and geldings, male horses, carry 126 pounds (approximately 57 kg); whereas, fillies, female horses, carry 121 pounds (approximately 55 kg).

Historically, this popular horse race was inaugurated in 1873.  One of the long held records in the Preakness Stakes was set by Secretariat in 1973 for the fastest speed.  This record is still held today.  Speaking of records, there are several for the Preakness Stakes including the following:  the most wins by a jockey is 6 held by Eddie Arcaro; the most wins by a trainer is 7 held by R. Wyndham Walden; and, the most wins by an owner is also 7 held by Calumet Farm.  In recent years, there are records for the longest margin for wins by Smarty Jones in 2004 by a distance of 11 ½ lengths and Funny Cide in 2003 by a distance of 9 ¾ lengths.

Although the Preakness Stakes is often referred to as “The Run for the Black-Eyed Susans,” this is not entirely accurate as no Black-Eyed Susan flowers are used for this horse racing event.  The horse that wins this popular horse race is draped with a blanket of yellow flowers.  The yellow flowers that are used resemble the Maryland State Flower, the Black-Eyed Susan as the Black-Eyed Susan does not bloom until about two months after the Preakness Stakes.

Some interesting, additional horse racing news related items regarding the Preakness Stakes are next.  In 1948, the Preakness Stakes was first televised by CBS.  Due to the entry of 26 race horses in 1918 requiring the race to be run in two different divisions in that year, there is a current maximum of 14 horses.  Finally, after having this horse racing event run over 7 different distances, the Preakness Stakes has been run at the current distance of 1 3/16th miles since 1925.

Not everyone can attend this popular horse race in-person.  Some may be limited by time, money, geographic proximity or any combination of these along with some other inhibiting factors.  Here comes the virtual world to the rescue.  Horse Racing Fantasy developed by Horse Racing Simulation LLC gives you the opportunity to participate or watch the Preakness Stakes or any other famous horse race you desire from over 450 horse races available to you.  Additionally, you may wish to select one of the over 200 horse racing tracks in the game.   Within the community section, this site provides horse racing news in addition to the game.

Alfred G. Vanderbilt H – The Jockey’s Showcase

Justin Phillip and Valezquez

A grade 1 thoroughbred horse racing event held at Saratoga Race Course at the Saratoga Springs witnessed the classic example of how jockey’s skills pay-off at a given race.  The Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt Handicap was named after well known owner who had served as the chairman of the Now York Association Board.

The six furlong sprint was won by Justin Phillip who had missed the title last year by a neck. August 4 the dark bay colt defeated Bahamian Squall, Gentlemen’s Bet and Delaunay. Even though I had my favorite as Gentlemen’s Bet, Justin Phillip gave a run for his life!

The five year old son of First Samurai and Ava Knowsthecode, trained by Steven Asmusssen was seen to fight out to victory when jockey John Valezquez kicked him into gear after the turn for home; sidelining his competition into the inside he ran the outside at the final sixteenth, timing 1:08.59 with a two length victory.

Other experienced jockey were Luis Saez aboard runner up Bahamian Squall, Joel Rosario leading Gentlemen’s Bet into third, Rosie Napravnik partnered with Delaunay placing forth and Javier Castellano leading Caixa Eletronica into fifth .

All of the above mentioned jockeys were at their best during this race however, the winner Valezquez was particularly happy with his running.

In a news article given by Horse Blood, Valezquez had said; "The speed developed the way I expected it would," Velazquez reported. "I was right behind those two horses (Gentlemen's Bet and Delaunay), and I was aware of the horse that was inside (Bahamian Squall), so I kind of got him pinned down in there. I made my move around the three-sixteenths pole, and he responded."

Winning his first title from a career of 5 starts, the five year old had recently been run down by Bahamian Squall at the Calder Casino & Race Course at the Smile Sprint Handicap dated July 6.

Reading about the talented Valezquez, I tried my hand being a jockey at fantasy horse race game. Predominantly, I preferred being the trainer playing the game online, but this time I am willing to take on the challenge as a jockey to my champion horses.

Palace Malice the graceful Jim Dandy win

“I am hoping to see a great amount of action and my eyes is on Palace Malice. The trio of the jockey-trainer-race horse is at its best with trainer Tod Pletcher, Jockey Mike E. Smith and Palace Malice, and I am hoping to see him set the race straight by his win!

Remembering his “suicidal” pace at the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs I am assuming there is going to be pressure among the rest of the participants!”

This is exactly how I had ended my Blog last week. Hoping to see some thrill at the Jim Dandy Stakes, I was waiting in anticipation.. And what a race it was!

It seemed like the lineup on July 27 at Saratoga Race Course included no one apart from the great Palace Malice, others were just not good enough. The others included Mylute, Code West, Will Take Charge, Moreno, Bashaar, Looking Cool, Perfect Title and Freedom Child.

Like I had mentioned in my previous blog, the trio of Mike-Pletcher-Malice did a tremendous job at the Jim Dandy Stakes powering a victory and winning a purse of 600,000 dollar defeating Will Take Charge by a length at the Grade II open to 3 year-old over a distance of 1 1/8 mile.

Will Take Charge a chestnut colt foaled April 13, 2010 is the son of Unbridled Song and Take Charge Lady. Moreno who placed third held the show till the end. It would be worth mentioning that Todd Pletcher has a history of winning the Jim Dandy Stakes starting from Graeme Hall in 2000, Strong Hope in 2003, Purge in 2004 followed by Flower Alley in 2005 and Stay Thirsty in 2011, with Palace Malice, he accounts for his 5th win in 2013.

Running on a close outside to Moreno, who timed 00:24.06 at the quarter, Palace Malice geared up at the sixteenth pole timing 1:34.94 on the mile count.

Looking forward to the Travers scheduled on August 24 will see Pletcher’s trained Palace Malice and Verrazano at the Saratoga Race Course. Verrazano who won the Hill Haskell Invitational Stakes by a record of 9 ¾ lengths!

Pletcher said; “We're fortunate to have two such outstanding colts, you hate to run horses against each other from the same barn, but in this case I think it's the logical place for both horses and both owners. We'll see how they both come back and both train, but right now it certainly looks like they're likely to show up in the Travers." – bloodhorse

The Travers Stakes will be something I will be waiting with anticipation to see the run of real time champions that include the winner of the Preakness Stakes – Oxbow and the winner of the Belmont Stakes- Palace Malice

Train to be the Best

The son of legendary Curlin is set for the Jim Dandy Stakes, July 27.  Palace Malice a dark bay identified by the small star on his forehead is an American Thoroughbred known for his 2013 Belmont Stakes win followed by Oxbow and Orb. Sired by Curlin and Dam Palace Rumor, this stallion is a great mix of breed fooled on May 2, 2010 making him a three year old this year.

Preparing himself for the Grade 2 Stakes at Saratoga Race Course he clocked 00:49.77 over four furlongs, making it the 34th quickest of 95 at the distance on the morning of July 21, when he was seen at his fifth workout since his victory at Belmont on June 8.

The Jim Dandy Stakes that is ran as the late July Sunday event at the Saratoga race course was inaugurated in the year 1964. Open to three year olds and above, it distances over 9 furlongs. Named after the colt called Jim Dandy who had won the Travers Stakes in 1930, this event will be in its 50th running this year.

I am hoping to see a great amount of action and my eyes is on Palace Malice. The trio of the jockey-trainer-race horse is at its best with trainer Tod Pletcher, Jockey Mike E. Smith and Palace Malice, and I am hoping to see him set the race straight by his win!

Remembering his “suicidal” pace at the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs I am assuming there is going to be pressure among the rest of the participants!

Even though the real thrill of horse racing remains at the tracks, it is however possible to bring the race to you. While you sit at home and experience an entertaining virtual game played online, you can feel the adrenaline rush with the 3D horse racing fantasy game. You can plan practices as a trainer or be the name on the leader board as the jockey winning the most prestigious races of all times.

Why not try racing the father and the son – race Curlin and Palace Malice and watch the real winner thrive through! www.horseracegame.com

What a race! The Oceanside Stakes opening division witnessed the thrill of horse racing at its prime. Gervinho took the title home winning by a neck in the one of the most outstanding race at Del Mar, July 17. Defeating Greeley Awesome by a stretch, the bay colt sired by Unusual Heat and Dam Foreverinthegame took charge of the first division. The second division was won by Rising Legend.

Charging in from the outside and smashing away his pacesetter Manando, Gervinho shouldered weight of 123 pounds timing 1:33.88.  Freakin Rocket led by Mike Smith was a tough competition but was left past behind at the furlong mark finally placing third. Julien Leparoux aboard Greeley Awesome finished second.

Among his other races worth mentioning were the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf and the Silky Sullivan Stakes at Golden Gates Field in June. Victory for Victor Espinoza – The Triple Bend

Victor Espinoza does it again! The forty-one year old rode to a glorious victory with Centralinteligence, winning the Group 1 Triple Bend Handicap at The Betfair Hollywood Park last week. This seven-furlong race is treated as a “Win & You’re in” long awaited racing event; Breeders’ Cup Challenge at Santa Anita Park.

California, Inglewood hosts this race every year; contested on synthetic dirt cushion track it is open to three years and older. Previously known as the Lakes and Flowers Handicap, it was renamed in 1979 after Frank McMahon’s colt ‘Triple Bend’ who had set a world record time of 1:19.80 for a distance of seven furlongs at the Los Angeles Handicap held at Hollywood Park race track.  The world record however stands in the name of Rich Cream, who had re-set the time at 1:19.40, fractions of a second faster than the previous record holder – Triple Bend in 1980.

This year the track witnessed a new runner Centralinteligence; jockeyed by Victor Espinoza and trained by Ronald W. Ellis. The chestnut gelding has a noticeable pedigree; sired by Smarty Jones and dam Shootforthestars, Centralinteligence shot his way towards the finishing line leaving behind his pacesetter Comma to the Top.

Last year’s sixth place jumped up to the winning position, giving him and his trainer their first Triple Bend win; with the timing of 1:21:57 with Comma to the Top and Morning Lee in the second and third position respectively.

The game of horse racing is highly capricious, and involves a large amount of risks and combinations, however this instability and uncertainty is what draws in more and more crowd! Horse racing has and always will remain one of the most challenging sports in the history of mankind.

Try our 3D simulated horse racing game and be a part of this challenge! Race at the Triple Bend, jockey to ride away your horse to victory.  www.horseracegame.com

Belmont Stakes 2013 saw the rise of a stallion that placed 12th in Kentucky Derby against Orb and Oxbow who were left to trail behind in the Belmont Stakes on June 8, 2013.

Palace Malice took horse racing fans by surprise by winning the 2013 Belmont Stakes, defeating the Kentucky Derby winner Orb and Preakness winner Oxbow by 31/4 lengths this was definitely  a race to watch.

With the start of the race, Frac Daddy charged out an early lead, with Giant Finish and Freedom child following close behind. Palace Malice ha a clean start as did Oxbow and Orb. At the penultimate turn, Oxbow took lead with Palice Malice at third position.

It was at the final turn, where Oxbow and orb were trailing behind while Mike Smith charged Palace Malice to go full ahead as if shot out of a cannon. Incognito followed fourth in the race being lead by Irad Ortiz Jr.

Tod Pletcher’s other two, Revolutionary and Unlimited Budget placed fifth and sixth respectively. The 12th Place finish by Pletcher - trained Palace Malice, did not create too much of a buzz for the bay colored Stallion sired by Curlin. Even though he had his lead from the start and had set a very fast pace, fastest initial quarter- and half-miles in Derby history, a pace that was described as “suicidal”, but was over taken and finally placed 12th with Orb winning the race.

Palace Malice secures his place in history being the seventh horse since 2000 to win Belmont after running in Derby and then skipping the Preakness.
